Surfer in the Making

Brayden took to the beach with his friend Kameron and started the hobby of surfing. Kameron's been surfing for a while now but this was Brayden's first attempt. The water was calm and perfect for a beginner. I can't wait to watch him practice and be able to ride some big waves!

Kindergarten Ceremony

It's the end of Kindergarten and we are moving onto first grade! Raylan's school put on an end of school performance where each classroom sung a song about Kindergarten. After the show we all went back to their individual classrooms where each kid got to walk the red carpet and receive awards given by their teacher.

Way to go Raylan! We are so proud of your year and can't wait to see what first grade brings!

Class Fish

This school year Bransen saved all his classroom "money" for the days that he received green and blue days. To his surprise the student with the most money was able to buy the classroom fish.

So welcome our newest member of the family our beta fish, Thunder Rockstar Mederias!

4th Grade Social

Aiden's school put on an end of year dance. He was so excited to get dressed up and hang out with his friends for a party. This handsome little guy is growing up so fast. He was so excited to tell us all about it when he got home and show us all the cool things he won!

Dinner at Bull Creek

We met up with the Robert's for dinner at Bull Creek Fish Camp and some evening fishing! And after Ben got to see some fishing done by Kameron he was excited to go and buy his very own fishing pole!

Beach Day

After the few days of being in the hospital I was able to venture out with Bransen, Ben, Aiden and Raylan and have a beach day. It was much needed and we all enjoyed sometime in the sun with our friends followed by some ice cream before calling it a day!

Rotavirus for the WIN

So after all that fun we had at the hotel and for championship weekend we came back for a day and sickness hit Brayden out of the blue.

He woke up late Monday night early Thursday with a nasty stomach bug. He ended up puking blood which alarmed me so that morning we went to the emergency room. He was complaining of  a headache, foot were hurting and his back. I automatically thought maybe he was dehydrated from the weekend and the prior night. They tested his urine and it came back fine so we were sent home.
He came back to my office with me and fell asleep (which is very rare of him). That night he wasn't feeling any better.

The next morning my mother instinct told me something was wrong. He was supposed to spend the day with my mom but instead we headed to the emergency room again this time just a different one. We went to a pediatric emergency room. As soon as we got there they hooked him up to an IV of fluid. He was severely dehydrated. He was still complaining of stomach pains so they sent him for a CT scan and all was clear with that. We were admitted for the night for more fluids. His blood tests came back fine. They tested his stool and based on the results of that  (and the smell alone) he tested positive for the rotovirus. We had to stay another night for more fluids and to be on the safe side as he still wasn't drinking or eating much on his own.

We finally got discharged! Oh wait just to be re-admitted a couple hours later. We get home and he goes right back to sleeping, wakes up to use the restroom and pukes more blood! The nurse told us to come right back where we hooked up to more IV. His potassium level was also very low so they tried to give him it throught the IV but it burned and the oral medicine was even worse.

We got to go home the next day and we haven't been back! Thanks goodness! The nurses and staff at the hospital were beyond amazing! It was rough to see him so sick but I knew he was in the best care.

Orlando State Championship Weekend

Wow! What a weekend! We were so busy having so much fun at the track and with friends that I didn't get many pictures. So let me re-cap as best as I can!

Brayden, Bransen, Ben and I all went over to Orlando Thursday night and met up at the hotel with the Bordis' and Baum's. We let the boys eat pizza, go swimming and play in the hotel room. Friday morning we got up, swam some more and made it to the track for our practice times. Bransen and Ben both got into their practice slots to obtain some good runs before the championship.

Jake met us for dinner Friday night at the hotel restaurant and we let the boys swim a little bit more but not for long because it was important to get a good night sleep before the big race!

Saturday morning came and we were ready for the championship! Ben  was up first, three motos and he took the win! He took a win by the long shot all three times. Super proud of him. At practice the day before he was doing the entire track including the steep starting hill. When his race started he wanted to start up there so we had to convince him he needed to start with the rest of the kids and he raced for the trophy!

Bransens motos were coming up. There was a total of over 200 motos and it was hot. The first moto he came out of the gate strong and there happened to be a wreck a head of him that made him veer and another rider got in front of him not allowing him to transfer to the semi that moto. Moto two came and he again shot out of the gate but came up short again and unfortunately again in the last moto not making it to the main! He raced hard, gave it his all and was up against some of the best riders! I couldn't ask for more.

Sunday came and it was time for the award ceremony. Here's where the big win comes. Out of all the riders in the sport of BMX in Florida there were thirteen riders nominated for rider of the year. Bransen Matthew Barrette was one of the thirteen. Just to be nominated was an honor and out of all the wins of the season that was the biggest.

He finished the year 9th out of 18 riders in his age group. He had an amazing year, raced lots of races, made so many new friends and created so many memories that will last a lifetime!

On to the 2020 season!
